Inventory Count
Inventory Count is used to establish the beginning inventory (physical inventory) for your products. It can also be used to display or print an inventory report. In order to use Inventory Analysis, the inventory must first be entered using the Inventory Count Task.
To count inventory:
- Click on Inventory Count from the Inventory Menu. Enter a Category Name. (This can be the date or a descriptive name like Soda Aisle).
- Enter the UPC or PLU field code for the product you wish to count. The following information displays:
- Description
- Department
- Section
- Cost
- Vendor
- Pack/Size
- Cost
- Price
- Label
- Enter the Count Quantity. Once you enter the UPC or PLU code and the quantity, the product is displayed in the Product list box below and the UPC/PLU and quantity fields are cleared for the next item.
- Flag the Label check box if a label is needed. The label is sent to the Print Label file and can be printed from the Point of Sales icon Print Labels task.
- Repeat steps 2 through 5 if necessary.
- Click the Mark Inventory button in the toolbar when you have completed your entire Inventory Count. This will clear all current inventory count records and will recalculate the Quantity on Hand for each product in the count; taking into account all receipts and sales through the close of business on the ending date you entered. The inventory count and ending date you enter will be the basis for calculating inventory levels in the Inventory Analysis function. When using the Inventory Analysis function, the ending date can be used as a Start Date when calculating inventory or as a Start and End Date when calculating shrinkage.
- Or, press, “Create a Job for Marking Inventory Count” in the toolbar. The system will mark the ending count according to the time and date that the user schedules.
Other activities you can perform in this dialogue:
- Delete an item. Highlight the item you want to delete from the Inventory Count and press the Delete button on your keyboard.
- Review a previous inventory count. Click on the Category drop down list.
- Preview Report. Click on the Preview Report button in the tool bar to preview what the report will look like if desired.
Click on the Exit Current Window button from either the preview screen or the Inventory Count dialogue when you have finished.
Tip: You should enter the product counts into the system the same day the count for the product is taken. The system stamps the date and the time entered on the product count and uses this date to recalculate the net quantity-on-hand when you mark the ending inventory. Retail allows you to take a physical count of your stores inventory over a period of several days.
Inventory Counts taken via the wireless module can be viewed from the Inventory Count screen by selecting the category from Category drop down list.
